Seedballs are small, nutrient-rich balls made from compost, clay, and seeds. They’re designed to make planting wildflowers simple and effective. By protecting seeds inside the clay and compost mixture, seedballs give them the best chance to germinate naturally once they’re exposed to the elements.

Our seedballs are made from sifted compost, red clay, the chosen seeds, and a tiny pinch of cayenne pepper. The cayenne pepper acts as a natural deterrent to pests such as mice and birds, keeping the seeds safe until they’re ready to grow.

Seedballs protect seeds from being eaten by birds or rodents and shield them from harsh weather. The clay casing breaks down gradually, allowing the seeds to germinate at the perfect time. This mimics the way wildflowers would naturally establish themselves in the wild, but with a much higher success rate.

If you scatter your seedballs in winter, they will simply remain dormant until conditions are right in spring. This is perfectly safe and often beneficial, as natural cold stratification can improve germination rates.

For optimum results, it's best to scatter in Spring or Autumn.

All we suggest is giving the seedballs a good watering at the beginning, and if they haven't had any rain for a while. Good germination success is very likely as long as the seedballs get good amounts of water and sunshine.

No extra work is needed aside from this. Once scattered, nature takes over. Rain, frost, and sunshine will slowly break down the clay casing, and the seeds will germinate when the conditions are right. We include full instructions in your leaflet for reassurance.

Yes, seedballs can be grown successfully in pots and containers. Just make sure the pot has good drainage and is placed in a sunny spot. This is a great option for balconies, patios, or smaller gardens.

This depends on whether the seeds are annuals, biennials, or perennials. Annuals usually flower in the first year, biennials the following year, and perennials may take a little longer to establish. Full details of your specific seed mixes are included in the leaflet that comes with your box.

Yes. The ingredients are natural and safe for cats, dogs, and other household pets.

The only potentially toxic plant included is poppy, which can be harmful if ingested in large quantities. For most households, this poses no issue, but it’s good to be aware if you have pets that like to chew plants.

We recommend using your seedballs within one year of purchase for the best germination results. If stored somewhere cool and dry, they’ll remain viable during that time.

Yes. Our hedgehog food is the same type used byVale Wildlife Hospital, one of the UK’s largest wildlife rescue centres. It’s a high-quality, balanced blend designed to give hedgehogs the energy and nutrients they need.

Absolutely! We love hearing from our customers. You can submit your wildlife sightings through the ‘Submit Your Wildlife Sightings’ section on our website. All sightings are added to our community page, helping build a shared picture of local wildlife activity.

We carefully select and ratio the seed mix at the time of dispatch to match the nutritional needs of garden birds for that particular season. This ensures they get the best possible support all year round.
